  • Back to London, and exams in full tilt

Well, things are going OK I suppose. I got back to London a few weeks ago, and I’ve just got through the first week of exams. So far they’ve been OK, with one decidedly evil exam which everyone found hard anyway.

But on to more happy things. Having returned, I learn that Rob’s going out with Yuri… sweet…

I told May this morning over the ‘net. One of her first comments was:
hey, looks like u’re the only one who’s single in the house now.. haha

    HAHA?!
    *grits teeth*

Chance would be a fine thing…

  • Easter

Just found this topical comic over at Real Life (a comic) – check it out… here.
Oh, and work’s happening, albeit slowly. First exam a week tomorrow.

  • Easter “holidays”

So I’ve been home in Harrogate for nearly a week now, and all I’ve managed to get done is to pretty much understand the workings of the first half of the MCC course. This could be something to do with the fact that the lecturer (die, PG, die) still hasn’t fixed the broken links to the final version of the notes, so I keep having thoughts that the stuff I’m reading and trying to understand is probably wrong anyway. Then again, it could be something to do with the draw of the beast known here as a “television”. Probably both.

Argh. I’m going to draw up a little exam/revision timetable and try and focus a bit more over the next week – I think I’ll give up on MCC for now and concentrate on something less theoretical for a bit.

Why am I writing this anyway? Does anyone actually read this? If so, tell me, otherwise I might just give up this whole weblog thing – it’s almost too much effort…

  • Real Work ™

Just a quick update on the job situation.

    – Accenture hate me.
    – I decided SchlumbergerSema weren’t good enough for me.
    – I’m going to work for IBM in the Notes and Tools group at Hursley.

I start at IBM on the 3rd of November, after our epic Japan trip. It should be fun – my new manager seems like a nice bloke (he made a real effort to allow me to adjust my starting date), and though I haven’t interacted with the rest of the group yet, I suspect they’ll be nice enough.

That and lots of other IC peeps are coming to IBM as well, so that should be fun.

Unfortunately Dave didn’t make it in – foolish IBM recruiters don’t know a good thing when they see one. Still, it looks as if he’ll be working in department as a research assistant. The work sounds interesting, though it’s way beyond me…

  • Revision begins in earnest (tomorrow)

Vicky’s birthday party was good fun – it was good to see all the crew from down south again, even if it was in Durham. Durham is lovely by the way, and I heartily recommend Trevelyan college – the bar’s good and genuinely nice people go there, which is wonderful.

I popped across to Oxford to visit Xi this weekend, which was nice and relaxing. We walked around Magdalen College on Sunday, which almost persuaded me to take a PhD there, but I’m nowhere near clever enough for that.

In other news, nothing much happened today except me rolling out of bed in the afternoon and berating myself for not doing any work all day. I’m going to lug my notes to the uni library tomorrow so I can concentrate.

I’ve somehow managed to damage my left knee sufficiently so that it’s extremely painful to sit cross-legged or kneel down. I’ll see if it fixes itself over the next couple of days – if not I’ll go and pick on some poor unsuspecting doctor at the medical centre.
