  • Damp

I did my first Tall Ships Youth Trust voyage as Watch Leader last week. It was cold and wet to begin with, but shaped up OK. A few mistakes made – next time I’ll get it right.

  • Solent Scurry

I just got back from a great week sailing – the weekend round the Solent with a great bunch of people; some of which I already knew, and some I was meeting for the first time. Absolutely brilliant weekend – loads of fun people and a good sail into the bargain 😀

After the weekend a few of us (Ben, Jules, Paul and myself) took one of the boats – “Trouble Maker” – and we spent the rest of the week sailing her to France (via Poole) and back. Again, a brilliant time.

I just wish I could go sailing more often. On that theme, I’m trying to get a few friends together, and perhaps charter a boat at the end of September. It wouldn’t be the nicest time to go sailing, but it’s either then or not at all, as we’re fast approaching the end of the season 🙁

  • Life goes on

Sadly sailing didn’t work out as Ben didn’t make it back into the country on time, but instead I went to Paul’s 25th party. We all dressed up as pirates and had a great time. There was Donkey Conga or something like that involved too 😀

So I’m heading North for the bank holiday weekend on Friday, and it’s Jo’s birthday this weekend so it’s all very exciting. Because it’s the bank holiday on Monday, and she also has the day off, we get to spend the whole day together, a rare luxury, the importance of which cannot be overstated.

Anyway… not much else to report. Work continues as normal with very little going on. Who would have thought life would be so unstimulating?

  • Sailing, car, and wibblings

It looks as if I might get to go sailing with Baz and Ben in April – the plan is to charter a Sigma 38′ and enter the last race of the Cowes Series with a bunch of other people. I’m really hoping it all goes through as I love sailing 😮

My car is acting up already, so she’s going into the garage on Monday morning to get her gearbox checked out. She’s also having her handbrake cable tightened, but that’s to be expected on a new car – stretching and all that.

  • Day Skipper

I spent last week sailing with Baz and Ben and a couple of other people from TSYT. Most of the week was spent bumming around the Solent, but we did go for a great sail around the island (Isle of Wight) on Tuesday. Quick picture of the Needles, west of the IOW…

The excuse for all this was a Day Skipper practical course – I’m now the proud owner of a Day Skipper certificate as well as a Competent Crew certificate. Sadly still quite crap at sailing though.
