  • General wibblings

Christmas, New Year’s and all the rest were lovely. As usual. I got to meet a number of my old friends again, which was good – it’s been a while since I saw them.

I had an interview with Accenture on Tuesday (Jan 7th), which unfortunately didn’t go as well as I’d hoped – for some reason I got caught off guard, and didn’t put myself across as well as I could have. Which is a pain. We’ll have to see whether they want me back for the second round, fingers crossed eh?

Outsourcing report crawls forward as usual, as do various option selections. Thankfully the report’s due on Monday now rather than tomorrow, so that gives me some extra breathing space.

We had our first Kempo training session at uni yesterday – which was fun. No black belts present, so we all muddled through as well as we could.

    Anyway, back to work…

  • End of term soon!

Our term ends this Friday, which will be a relief.
Unfortunately some coursework due in that day – “Models of Concurrent Computation”, which means I need to spend tomorrow (Wednesday) learning the course again.

Next week I’m off to Paris with my sister and Phil for a few days, before coming back to do some work on my individual project.

  • Meeeeep

Still haven’t rented out the spare room – starting to look quite dicey as to whether we will before the end of our contract. Never mind eh?

Stuck on work atm. Completely. A coursework to be handed in at 5pm today, another tomorrow at 5pm, and another on Friday at 5pm. And I’ve done nothing on any of them. Quite disconcerting. Ah well.

Have been trying to get “george” – my “new” SPARC IPX, to run BIND 9.1.0, which has proved to be difficult. Turns out (Mike just told me) that the problem I was having was that BIND 9.1.0 requires a default value in some of its config files, which the old version didn’t require. Hence the new version breaking.

    Life is depressing.

Went to the Union on Friday night though, which was a blessing. I saw Kris, Kieran, and Brad there, along with the friends I went with initially (Pete et al.). Pete & friends left early, so I hung around for a bit chatting to Kris & Brad for a while. A most welcome chance to occupy the mind with something other than depressing thoughts.

My Grandfather(paternal side of the family) passed away last weekend, so we went to the funeral yesterday. Hope you have a good time wherever you’ve gone to, G’pa.

On a more cheerful subject, I did manage to hand in a couple of courseworks on time last week, which was good.

etc. etc. etc. I won’t bore you anymore. Someone once said “It’s all in the timing.”

  • Holiday, and Shotgun LAN 10 plans

I’m off on holiday to Wales on Saturday – yay! Almost a week of pure relaxation 🙂

On Thursday however I drive from Wales to London. Then London to Badshot Lea on Friday. Then back to London on Sunday. Then up to Harrogate on Monday. Erk.
So quite a drive. This is all in aid of Shotgun LAN 10, which we’re holding in Badshot Lea this time – brill new venue.
So preparations are continuing apace – bungle and george are getting the reformat treatment, and a new server is being constructed from odd bits and pieces I’ve got lying around 🙂
This one should be really good. Whilst we don’t have as many attendees as we’d like (wrong time of year), it allows us to test out the new venue and all the new kit without too many consequences if something goes wrong. Which is good.

Anyway, back to work. Laters all.

  • Exam results out

A close shave, that one. Barely stayed on the four year course. Eep.
Mental note to self – ensure work next year.

Working in CSG again this year. Same-o. But hey, it pays for my bass guitar and living costs in London, along with hopefully some computer gear. Computer gear might have to take a back seat if more important things come along, but chances are small, as always.
Eeenyway. Phil is working down in Maidenhead/Bracknell for a year now, so he isn’t too far out from London. Been meeting up with him a few times over the past week, which has been good. One of the big disadvantages of working in London is that all schoolfriends are in Harrogate. 3/400 miles separation doesn’t help when you want to go out for a drink. Bugger.

Had a sudden urge to get drunk last night, but I finished the Tetleys before I moved flat, and it was too late to go down the pub. So that was a bit of a downer. I did washing instead. Not the most interesting evening in my lifetime.

Need to go suit shopping on Saturday – Duke of Edinburgh’s presentation on Tuesday (Buckingham Palace – oooOooo). This means I have to find a 42L suit in the sales, including a 32″ waist. Like that’s going to happen. Bah.

Not in a good mood at the moment. Someone try and cheer me up, please?
